I received a phone call from my previous boss, Penn, not too long ago.
She asked me if I would like to...sing.
I'm not like a songbird nor do I leave anyone the impression that I can sing because dancing is my element. Nevertheless, I went over to IE late one afternoon to audition.
It was great to be given a chance to be in an A Capella group, which is something I've not done before.
I mean, carolling doesn't really count, does it?
Cos we have guitars and and timbrel and I'll be dancing to a few of the songs most of the time.
I've never joined the school choir or band and the highest level of musical education I had was Grade 8 piano which I didn't even take the exam for.
Ok, the last exam was when I was in my early teens.
That's like, a decade ago.
OMG.
Anyway, it took a few practices with the group (and a lot of homework when I'm alone) to memorize the songs and all the parts.
Kind of hard to harmonize when there are so many other notes on the scale, and I'm not used to singing anything other than a 3rd higher than the melody.
Thank God I didn't screw up majorly at the performance tonight.
We had 6 numbers, one of which I took lead of.
Although I'm actually pretty used to being on stage (my first public performance was singing a duet and dancing with my classmate when I was 6 at Sungai Wang, and dancing in church every other week), I was quite nervous cause, like I said, my element is dancing.
The only other times people hear me sing was leading praise and worship, once, in Youth and that faculty talent time during my first year in uni.
No, karaoke doesn't really count. lol.
I mean, nobody asks me to sing, so I assumed no one thought I could. lol.
But anyway.
I enjoyed myself a lot tonight.
The team was great, Eason gave me a lot of pointers during our practices, Rachel and Wendy helped me a lot with pitching, Cat was great at being my partner in most of the numbers and Andrew cracks me up all the time.
It was great fun.
Looking forward to the next gig in Nov ^^
